Why DOLLMAKER?

A collaboration with Etellan

DOLLMAKER is a 3D printing resin created entirely with ball-jointed dolls in mind, and the artists behind them.

In collaboration with Etellan, we wanted to create a resin that wasn't just 'good enough' for BJD, but was perfect for it.

We tried to improve many aspects of a final doll product you can get through 3D printing, while also making the experience easier and more enojyable.

We hope you will like it.

Developed for doll art

Looks like a doll

It's just nice to look at.

DOLLMAKER has a porcelain smooth surface finish, which gives dolls a clean, delicate look, and masks layer lines.

It comes in a very light skin colour that can be used as is, or can be dyed easily for those who prefer.

Feels like a doll

It is hard to describe why, but some objects just feel nicer in your hand than others.

That's what we wanted from DOLLMAKER dolls too.

They're not too hard, and not too soft. They're smooth, but not slick. They have a weight that is satisfying to hold.

No scratching or powdering at joints

A common difficulty with 3D printed BJD is that joint areas get scratched up and powder as they rub together.

We made DOLLMAKER with an anti-scratch formula, so dolls can stay smooth and neat, as intended.

Stands the test of time

DOLLMAKER prints are durable, resistant to discolouration, and can easily withstand the common pains a doll might experience.

That includes stringing, posing, accidental falls, or even a dreaded niece coming to town.

  • Easy to sand

Where many resins emit a lot of dust when sanded, DOLLMAKER sands easily and cleanly.

But make sure to wear a respirator, even if the dust is not obvious. Tiny resin particles are not good for lungs.

  • Easy to fit parts together

We wanted pieces to fit together easily, without you having to calibrate manually for shrinkage or warping.

DOLLMAKER is also just a tiny bit flexible, to make fitting easier.

  • Easy to colour

We wanted DOLLMAKER to resemble a very light skin colour instead of being pure white, so hobbyists could just use it as it is if they want to.

But the colour is light enough that it can be changed to pretty much any other with just a small amount of pigment.
